Jaya Bachchan arrived at a Mumbai event with Shweta when paparazzi swarmed her. Irritated by the chaos, she paused and shot a sharp, cold stare at the photographers. The moment was captured on video and quickly spread across social media.Jaya was dressed in a white outfit and wore a mask, keeping her look simple and understated. But the chaos unfolding around her didn’t match her mood. As she tried to make her way inside, the rising noise and constant flashing clearly got under her skin. She paused, turned to her right, and fixed a stern gaze on the photographers. Shweta, noticing her mother’s frustration, gently held her hand and guided her ahead.

What happened next is what grabbed headlines. Jaya addressed the paparazzi directly, saying, “Aap log na photo lo, badtameezi mat karo. Chup raho, muh bandh karo. Upar se comments karte rehte ho.” The remark wasn’t new for those who have followed her interactions with the paparazzi over the years, but the bluntness once again sparked debate online.

Jaya has long been vocal about her discomfort with the aggressive nature of paparazzi culture. She has often schooled photographers for invading personal space or making unnecessary remarks while clicking pictures. She has also pointed out the larger problem with how celebrity videos are edited before they surface online. During an earlier conversation with her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda on the podcast What The Hell Navya, she explained, “What they take and what they put out are two different things. So you have the freedom to do it, what about my freedom?”

She didn’t stop there. Jaya also touched upon how some sections of the media deliberately provoke reactions from celebrities because they know it will create buzz. “I know some people make a comment so that they know there will be a reaction, then there will be a discussion, then there will be a tu-tu-main-main. So there are some celebrities who thrive on such things,” she said.
