Singer Honey Singh recently kicked off his highly anticipated Millionaire India Tour in Mumbai on Saturday night, winning the hearts of a massive crowd. Videos and pictures of the event quickly flooded social media, capturing Honey’s electrifying performance amidst the cheers of excited fans.
However, it wasn’t just his music that grabbed attention—Honey took the opportunity to take a playful dig at fellow rappers Badshah and Raftaar, which became the talk of the evening.
In a video clip that soon went viral, Honey took aim at those who had doubted his comeback and questioned his talent. "Kayi log kehte hain ki wo mere bhai hain. Kayi log kehte hain ki mera comeback nahi ho raha. Aur phir kehte hain wo mere gaane likhte the. Aur phir kehte hain ki wo meri takdeer likh denge," he said, addressing the rumours that had circulated about his career. ("Many people say that they are my brothers. They also say that I will never make a comeback. Then, they said that they wrote songs for me. Then they also said that they will write my destiny.")
Honey Singh, known for his sharp wit and playful barbs, then added, "To uspe ek sher sunaaon? Video banao, usko tag karna. Pichle saal meri taqdeer ne kaiyon ke guroor hain tode. Aur tujhe comeback karna padega l****." ( "Can I share a poetry on that? Record videos, tag him. Last year, my destiny has broken the pride of many. Now you will have to make a comeback.")
He then encouraged the crowd to join in and complete his sentence, which only added to the excitement and energy in the venue.
While it was clear that Honey was taking jabs at certain people, he made sure to clarify there were no ill feelings towards singer Diljit Dosanjh, who is also known for his popular phrase "Punjabi aa gaya oye." Honey added his own twist, addressing the crowd, "We are all family, we are one. So, I won't say Punjabi aa gaya oye. I'll say Punjabi aa gaya oye, Marathi aa gaya oye, Gujarati aa gaya oye, Bihari aa gaya oye, Bangali aa gaya oye, Mallu aa gaya oye... we are one."
This inclusive statement was met with loud applause from the crowd, which appreciated his message of unity. He further added, "Respect to Diljit paaji, he is my brother," confirming that no disrespect was intended.
Honey Singh and Badshah were once part of the same rap collective, Mafia Mundeer, along with Raftaar and other artists like Ikka and Lil Golu. However, the group later went their separate ways following a very public fallout, which led to both Honey and Badshah taking jabs at each other in interviews and on social media over the years.
Following his triumphant start in Mumbai, Honey Singh will continue his tour across 10 major cities in India. The next stops include Lucknow on February 28, Delhi on March 1, Indore on March 8, Pune on March 14, and Ahmedabad on March 15. He will also be performing in Bengaluru (March 22), Chandigarh (March 23), and Jaipur (March 29), with the grand finale of his tour set for Kolkata on April 5.
