Exclusive - Bryan Adams talks about use of AI in music: 'It's early days, but it may become a fantastic tool'

Bryan Adams also recognised the rapid growth of digital platforms and changing music consumption habits. He said: "The places that music is being performed or consumed are growing exponentially. There was some statistic that I heard recently, that Spotify gets hundreds of thousands of new songs a day. Imagine what that will be like in 10 years' time."

He further spoke about his favourite K Pop band and whom would he like to collaborate with in the future.

Excerpts from the exclusive interview with Bryan Adams:

Ques: To start with please tell us about your upcoming India tour in December - what kind of love brings you to India for the sixth time?

Bryan Adams: Once I’ve been somewhere on tour, I usually always like to return, especially if the gig has been great, and the Indian gigs have always been great.

Ques: What do you like the most about your Indian fans ?

Bryan Adams: That they have been really loyal.

Ques: You took a five year long break before you returned to India, why did you make long wait for fans?

Bryan Adams: Honestly it’s quite hard to be everywhere touring and still find time for family and writing music. Things just take time in this big beautiful complex world.

Ques: How do you feel about the increasing use of Artificial Intelligence in music creation and production? Do you see it as a tool that enhances creativity or as a potential threat to the authenticity of music?

Bryan Adams: It’s early days and people are experimenting a lot with it. I’m not sure if it will totally replace humans, but it may become a fantastic tool. It’s too early to tell.

Ques: Having said that, have you experimented with AI in your own music, or do you have any plans to explore this technology in the future?

Bryan Adams: No, not yet

Bryan Adams: Time

Ques: What's the story behind Summer of 69?

Bryan Adams: It’s a nostalgic bittersweet tale of summer time love and friendship

Ques: In India there are as many as 4-5 concerts - Coldplay, Boney M, along with Indian artists - do you think it interrupts the artists' sales? Or are people selective or are they spoilt for choices?

Bryan Adams: There are over a billion people in India, there’s room for all kinds of music

Ques: The popularity of K-pop has skyrocketed globally in recent years. What are your thoughts on the impact of K-pop on the global music industry?

Bryan Adams: I couldn’t sing you a K-pop song if it fell on me, but I know it’s popular. Similar to my previous answer, there are billions of people in the world and there’s plenty of room for all kinds of music. Good luck to them

Ques: Are there any K-pop artists or groups you’re particularly impressed by, and would you consider collaborating with any K-pop artists in the future?

Bryan Adams: The only one I’ve heard of is Black Pink, and I’d be delighted to do a song with them, then at least I’d know one k-pop song

Ques: Your songs often capture deep emotions and storytelling. How has your songwriting process evolved over the years and what themes resonate with you most today?

Bryan Adams: I wish I could play you the new album, but it’s not out until next year, but generally speaking my themes are pretty much the same as they’ve always been.

Ques: You've collaborated with many artists across genres. What do you think is essential for creating a successful partnership in music?

Bryan Adams: It’s all about the song.

Ques: In an ever-evolving music industry, how do you stay relevant and continue to connect with new generations of listeners?

Bryan Adams: Stay true to yourself and don’t follow trends.
