Sir Elton John revealed in a recent interview that he lost his eyesight last year due to an eye infection. Opening up about the emotional toll it has taken, he shared how the experience has deeply affected his life and presented ongoing challenges.
The music icon spoke in an interview with Times and said, “I can’t read. I can’t see my boys playing rugby and soccer, and it has been a very stressful time because I’m used to soaking it all up. It’s distressing.”
“You get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I’m lucky to have the life I have. I still have my wonderful family, and I can still see something out of here,” he said as he pointed towards his left eye.
Last year, Elton John took to social media to share that a “severe eye infection” had drastically affected his eyesight, leaving him with limited vision in just one eye.
John and his husband David Furnish have two sons Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12 through surrogacy. "I can't see TV, I can't read. I can't see my boys playing rugby and soccer," said the 78-year-old singer describing his sadness over not being able to enjoy moments in his day-to-day life with his family.
He also said, “To my husband, who’s been my rock, because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews, as you know, I’ve lost my eyesight, so it’s hard for me to see them, but I love to hear them. And, boy, it sounded good tonight! OK! Thank you for coming!"
Sir Elton had earlier revealed that his eyesight problems had prevented him from completing his new album. Back in November, he mentioned that it had been quite some time since he had worked on anything.
However, on Friday, Sir Elton made a remarkable return by releasing his new collaborative album with American musician Brandi Carlile, titled Who Believes In Angels.
