Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, a beloved stand-up comedian from Baltimore, tragically passed away after being fatally shot in Mississippi, according to police reports shared by CBS.
The 52-year-old was found with gunshot wounds in the Burton Lane area, and despite emergency treatment at Memphis’s Regional One Health hospital, he sadly couldn’t be saved.
Authorities have confirmed that a suspect is in custody and has been charged with his murder. Although the investigation is still ongoing, early indications suggest the shooting was an isolated incident.
The news has deeply saddened the comedy community, especially those who knew Reggie well. Club Mobtown Comedy, based in Maryland, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media, saying, “Rest in power @comedianreggiecarroll, thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”
Reggie was a familiar face on comedy stages nationwide, touring extensively and sharing his humour with audiences far and wide. Among those mourning him is Oscar-winning actress and comedian Mo’Nique, who called him her “brother in comedy.”
Reflecting on their last time together, she wrote on Instagram Story, “This is why I say treat people the best you can because you never know if you’ll get a chance to see them again, and the last time me and my brother Reggie, girl, was together.”

She added warmly, “That’s what it was, an amazing time, being on tour together, being on that road together, what a time, so I have no sad tears because all of our times together was amazing.”
Mo’Nique herself is known for her memorable roles in Black Mafia Family and Ugly Betty.
Reggie’s career highlights include appearances on the iconic Showtime at the Apollo in 2000 and a guest spot on The Parkers, alongside Mo’Nique and Countess Vaughn. He also produced the 2023 stand-up special Knockout Kings of Comedy and appeared in the 2022 TV movie Rent and Go.
His passing leaves a huge void in the comedy world, especially in Baltimore, where he was cherished as one of the city’s pioneering talents and a supportive figure to many upcoming comedians.
