For the first time, Jimin had a solo nomination at the MTV Video Music Awards. His track Who earned him a spot in the hotly contested Best K-Pop Song category at the 2025 VMAs in Elmont, New York. Yet, when cameras rolled on the red carpet and inside the ceremony, neither Jimin nor any of his BTS bandmates were present.
The award was announced during the preshow and ultimately went to Lisa for her single.
She, too, opted out of attending the event, instead sending in a prerecorded acceptance speech. That meant the night passed without a live K-pop winner moment on stage.
Jimin’s absence didn’t come as a surprise to close followers of BTS. The seven members, Jin, Jimin, J-Hope, Jungkook, Suga, V, and RM, recently completed their mandatory military service in South Korea and only just reunited this summer.
In August, J-Hope posted photos from Los Angeles showing the group back together, including shots from inside a recording studio. The message was clear: BTS is focused on new music rather than award show appearances.
In July, the group confirmed that a new BTS album is slated for spring 2026, with a world tour to follow. “We’ll be visiting fans all around the world, so we hope you’re as excited as we are,” their joint statement read. With that level of preparation underway, their schedules are understandably packed.
Jimin, in particular, has been balancing solo success with group commitments. His album Muse, released in July 2024 while he was still serving in the military, spawned the nominated track Who. He was officially discharged in June alongside Jungkook and marked the moment by thanking fans. “It’s been a long time, from the pandemic to military service. Now that we’re back, we’ll work hard to show you what we’ve prepared,” he told reporters.
