Gaurav Khanna, known for his role as Anuj Kapadia in Anupamaa alongside Rupali Ganguly, has confirmed his departure from the show following a 15-year leap, marking the end of his journey.
In an interview with ETimes, Gaurav opened up about his exit from the show and shared insights into the upcoming storyline. He said, “People have been constantly asking me about my return to Anupamaa. “Rajan sir (producer Rajan Shahi) had discussed the possibility of a grand re-entry for the character, and we waited two months for it to materialise. However, the storyline had to progress, and waiting no longer made sense. He, too, felt it was time for me to explore something bigger. So, for now, Anuj’s chapter is closed, but I see it as a comma, not a full stop. If the story demands and my schedule allows, I’d be happy to return."
Gaurav revealed that his role as Anuj was initially intended to be a three-month cameo but evolved into a career-defining journey, spanning over three years. "That kind of love is rare, and I can’t thank my fans enough for it," he further said while expressing his gratitude to the fans for the constant love and support.
Responding to rumors of a rift with lead actress Rupali Ganguly, Gaurav emphasized that his focus has always been on his craft, with everything beyond "action" and "cut" being secondary. He continued saying, “I don’t engage in retaliatory interviews or respond to rumours. What matters is the work we’ve created together."
Created by Rajan Shahi, Anupamaa has become one of television's most popular shows, with Rupali Ganguly in the lead. Following the announcement of a 15-year leap, several key actors, including Sudhanshu Pandey and Madalsa Sharma, exited the show for various reasons. Gaurav Khanna, who portrayed Anuj Kapadia, earned widespread praise for his role and his on-screen chemistry with Rupali Ganguly. His departure from the show has left fans speculating about the future of Anupamaa.
