Amid the ongoing legal battle with actor Dhanush, actress Nayanthara shared a cryptic post on Instagram that seems to reflect her thoughts on karma.
In an enigmatic message that she posted to her Instagram stories, Nayanthara wrote, “Karma Says!!! When you destroy someone’s life with lies, take it as a loan, it will come back to you with interest.”
This statement, though indirect, hints at a broader idea about the consequences of malicious actions.
The post comes at a time when Nayanthara and her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, are embroiled in a legal dispute with Dhanush regarding the ‘unauthorized’ use of clips from the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in their Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale.
The controversy began when Dhanush filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan, accusing them of using unauthorized footage from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the documentary, which was released on Netflix.
The footage in question was part of behind-the-scenes (BTS) visuals that Dhanush claims were taken without his permission. The lawsuit, which was heard by the Madras High Court on November 27, has brought the issue into the public spotlight. Justice Abdul Quiddhose, who was presiding over the case, directed Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, and others involved to clarify the allegations against them.
In addition to the lawsuit, Dhanush sent a legal notice to the couple, threatening further legal action if the clips were not removed from the documentary. The notice also included a demand for a compensation of Rs 10 crore, which Dhanush claimed was due to the unauthorized usage of the film’s footage. This legal battle has sparked significant media attention, with both sides making public statements about the situation.
Nayanthara’s response to these developments has been firm. Her lawyer, Rahul Dhawan, clarified that the footage in question was part of Nayanthara’s “personal library” and that it was not owned by Dhanush’s production company, Wunderbar Films Private Limited. According to Dhawan, the clips were taken from personal devices and were already in the public domain, shared widely on social media.
This defense indicates that Nayanthara and her team believe the lawsuit is without merit, as they did not breach any copyright laws.
In a previous statement on November 16, Nayanthara had also shared her frustration with Dhanush’s actions. In an open letter posted on Instagram, the actress accused him of "stooping to an all-time low" after demanding compensation for a mere three-second clip from Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
The clip was taken from BTS footage that, according to Nayanthara, was already public on social media.
In the letter, Nayanthara expressed her shock at Dhanush’s legal notice, criticizing him for his character and questioning why he was demanding such an exorbitant sum for what she deemed a minimal usage of the footage.
She wrote, “This is an all-time low from you and speaks so much about your character. I wish you were half the person you portray to be on stage in audio launches in front of your innocent fans, but clearly, you do not practice what you preach, at least not for me and my partner.”
