Akshay Oberoi is all set to share screen space with Janhvi Kapoor in the upcoming romance comedy, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari. However, the actor has recently reflected on how there’s a misconception about Janhvi.
In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, Akshay recalled an incident while shooting the film and admitted that he too ‘might have been guilty’ of having a misconception about her.
The actor recalled, “We were at a restaurant. I had ordered something and it took them some time to bring that to me. When the waiter finally came, he apologised to Janhvi and not me. I told her, ‘It must be nice. Wow! Mera khaana nahi aaya but apology tumhe mil rahi hai (my food hasn't arrived, but you are getting the apology).’”
He added, “These words just slipped out of my mouth and I didn’t think so much about it. About an hour later, she came to me and told me that she wanted to share something with me.”
However, Akshay admitted that Janhvi’s response changed the perception of her. He said, “She realised that I felt bad but she reminded me that there’s also a flip side to being who she is. Something had happened that morning and she was reminded of her mother and how great she is, by somebody, who was going to be working with us on that day.”
Akshay further noted that Janhvi is struggling with the comparison with her mother, Sridevi, which has led to high expectations.
He shared, “She had been beating herself up for three hours before she reached the set. She kept thinking how she’ll match up to her mother. That person had told her, ‘I’ve worked with your mother ‘x’ number of times and now I’ll be working with you. So, let’s see what you, Sridevi’s daughter, do today!’ Janhvi told me that it’s hard on both ends. And that hit me like a ton of bricks.”
Akshay further noted, “There’s a misconception we all carry about her. But there’s struggle on both sides – for them to match up to the legends and for us to prove something. From that day on, I swore to myself that I won’t just generalise and say that they’ve it easy and I’ve it harder. No one has it easy. Everyone faces difficulties. Sabka struggle alag hai."
