Mohanlal has received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023, the most prestigious accolade in Indian cinema. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting made the announcement on Saturday.
The actor received congratulatory messages from his fans and some of the industry professionals, like Akshay Kumar.
Akshay took to his X (formerly Twitter) and congratulated Mohanlal for the prestigious honour. He tweeted, “Heartiest congratulations, @Mohanlal sir, on being honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Every time I’ve had the chance to meet you or observe your work, it’s been like sitting in the front row of the greatest acting school ever.”
Akshay concluded the tweet by writing, “This recognition is so richly deserved. Respect and love.”
However, Mohanlal has also reacted to the love and honour he has been receiving from the fans and colleagues. He tweeted, “Truly humbled to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This honour is not mine alone, it belongs to every person who has walked alongside me on this journey."
The actor continued, “To my family, audience, colleagues, friends, and well wishers, your love, faith, and encouragement have been my greatest strength and have shaped who I am today. I carry this recognition with deep gratitude and a full heart.”
Meanwhile, Akshay’s tribute to Mohanlal came amid the reports suggesting that the Malayalam superstar will make an exciting cameo in the upcoming film, Haiwaan. Akshay and Saif Ali Khan starrer film is directed by Priyadarshan, who has recently confirmed Mohanlal's role.
In a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Priyadarshan revealed that Mohanlal will be seen in a surprise role in the film. He teased about Mohanlal’s character and said, “His character will definitely be a surprise for the audience.”
The director and actor, who have collaborated on many successful Malayalam films, are making a big comeback.
Haiwaan is based on Priyadarshan's 2016 Malayalam hit Oppam, which starred Mohanlal. The director made it clear that it is not a direct remake but rather has a new screenplay.
