Prime Minister Narendra Modi dismissed allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party would try to change the Indian Constitution if it secured more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha, urging Opposition parties to stop fearmongering about the party's agenda.
“When I say that I have big plans, no one should be scared. I don’t take decisions to scare or run-over anyone, I take decisions for the wholesome development of the country,” PM Modi said during an interview with news agency ANI.
"...The problem lies with them (opposition) - they want to cast the country in the same mold. We worship diversity. We celebrate it," PM added.
He further said that his government has worked in the right direction, but there is still a lot to be done. “Governments always say that we have done everything. I don’t believe we have done everything. I have tried to do everything in the correct direction, but there still a lot to be done. How do I fulfill the dreams of every family, that is why I say this is a trailer,” PM said during the interview.
The Opposition has levelled allegations against BJP that the party wants to win 400 seats in the Lok Sabha election so that it could alter the Constitution of the country.
Earlier today, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee said that if the saffron party comes back to power, then the 2024 general elections will be the last.
"If you want to protect the country's independence, then remove the BJP (from power), only then the country will remain independent. If this party wins the upcoming elections, there will be no elections in the country in future. This is an autocratic government. They want one leader, one nation, one 'Bhashan', one 'bhojan' in the country," Banerjee said.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also made similar allegations after BJP MP Anantkumar Hegde had said that the party needs more seats to change the Constitution of the country.
