Rajasthan, which is currently being ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), sends 25 Lok Sabha members, and for the upcoming parliamentary polls, the people of the state will cast votes in two phases – April 19 and 26.
The state holds significance for both the BJP, which has set a target of securing 370 seats while Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a third consecutive term at the Centre, and the Congress, which is aiming for a significant share of seats to increase its tally.
In the 2019 general elections, the BJP won 24 out of 25 seats in the desert state, while one seat went to the NDA’s ally Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP). The party had managed to secure a vote-share of 58.5 percent, while RLP’s vote-share was recorded at 2.1 percent.

The Lok Sabha segments of the state include Ajmer, Jaipur, Jaipur Rural, Kota, Udaipur, Ganganagar, Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Sikar, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli-Dholpur, Dausa, Nagaur, Tonk-Sawai Madhopur, Pali, Jodhpur, Barmer, Jalore, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Kota, and Jhalawar-Baran.
In the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the contest in the state is again seen as bipolar, with the BJP facing a strong battle with the grand old party, which ruled the state from 2018 to 2023.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, when Prime Minister Modi was elected, the state was swept by the saffron party, leaving no seats for any other party. The party’s vote share was recorded at 55.6 percent, which increased by almost 3 percent in the 2019 general elections.
The Congress last showed a strong performance in Rajasthan during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls when it won 20 seats with a vote-share of 47.2 percent. The BJP is hopeful of registering a landslide victory again as it won the state polls.
On the other hand, the Congress is depending on the work it did while running the state affairs and banking on anti-incumbency, besides raising issues of unemployment.
According to the Election Commission of India, the total number of voters in Rajasthan is 5.26 crore, of whom 2.51 crore are women.
