Lok Sabha election results: Live updates
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi announced that she would not contest Rae Bareli. After much delay, Congress fielded Rahul Gandhi from the party bastion.
He also contested and won from Wayanad.
With Rahul recording a resounding victory from Rae Bareli and Congress's KL Sharma winning Amethi, both the family bastions are now back with the grand old party.
Rae Bareli has been a Congress bastion since 1960 with both Feroze Gandhi and Indira Gandhi having represented it.
The BJP managed to win the seat just twice, in 1996 and 1998.
Notably, Rae Bareli was the only Uttar Pradesh seat that Congress won in 2019, a result that underscored both, the party's dwindling fortunes in the state and the enduring appeal of Gandhis in Rae Bareli.
