Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Council of Ministers will be sworn in by President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday at 7.15 pm following the ruling National Democratic Alliance's victory in a keenly contested Lok Sabha elections. Modi, 73, will be equalling the feat of first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who won in 1952, 1957 and 1962 general elections.
Modi is all set to take charge as the prime minister for a historic third consecutive term with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) winning 293 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.
Necessary arrangements have been made for the guests, including designated enclosures for the council of ministers to be sworn in and the VVIPs, the officials said on Saturday. The Rashtrapati Bhavan shared visuals of the preparations for the grand ceremony in the forecourt with chairs, red carpet and other paraphernalia being set up.
VIP guest list
An official statement said Sri Lanka's president Ranil Wickremesinghe, Maldives' Mohamed Muizzu, Bangladesh's prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Bhutan's Tshering Tobgay, Nepal's Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', and Mauritius' Pravind Kumar Jugnauth have accepted the invitation to attend the event.
Seychelles' Vice President Ahmed Afif will also be attending the ceremony.
"In addition to participating in the swearing-in ceremony, the leaders will attend a Banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the same evening," the statement said. It added that the visit of the leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony is in keeping with the highest priority accorded by India to its 'Neighbourhood First' policy and 'SAGAR' vision.
Multi-layered security
A multi-layered security with five companies of paramilitary personnel, NSG commandoes, drones and snipers will blanket the Rashtrapati Bhawan for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony scheduled on June 9. Commandoes from Delhi Police's SWAT and NSG will remain deployed around the President's house and various strategic locations on the event day.
According to a senior police officer, as the event is scheduled to be held inside the Rashtrapati Bhawan, it will have a three-layered security both inside and outside the premises. Delhi Police personnel will remain deployed at the outer ring followed by paramilitary personnel and internal security of the President's house at the inner ring.
Snipers and armed police personnel will remain deployed on the routes of the dignitaries too and drones will be deployed at the strategic locations in the new Delhi district, another officer said, adding that the security cover is likely to resemble the one for the G20 summit last year.
Special Guests
Apart from political leaders from both the treasury benches and the opposition, the guest list reportedly includes individuals from the film and sports fraternities, top industrialists, and businessmen. Also invited to the ceremony are people from different walks of life. Surekha Yadav, the pilot of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Solapur Vande Bharat train in Maharashtra, is among 10 loco pilots of the Indian Railways who have been invited.
“The prime minister is known to respect the contribution of every ambassador who has been involved in the building of a strong nation. Gone are the days when the invites were sent only to VIPs and VVIPs. Our prime minister considers those who never get their dues or importance as VIP guests,” a source told News18. “10 special invites from the above categories have been informed that they would be watching this ceremony. We have seen how the prime minister has been popular amongst every strata of society. He has considered nobody small. Anybody who has worked for a better India will be given their due recognition.”
Asia's first woman loco pilot, Surekha Yadav, will attend the oath-taking ceremony of Narendra Modi as prime minister for a third term, an official from the Central Railway said
Yadav, who is piloting the Vande Bharat train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus-Solapur, is among ten loco pilots invited for the ceremony slated to be held on June 9 in New Delhi, the official said.
Assistant Loco Pilot Sneh Singh Baghel, representing the South East Central Railways (SECR) and operates the Nagpur-Bilaspur Vande Bharat Express has been invited to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. This distinguished invitation recognizes Mr. Baghel's exemplary service and dedication as a key member of the Vande Bharat Train team.
No-Fly Zone
Delhi Police has imposed prohibitory orders and declared the national capital no-flying zone as Narendra Modi will take oath as the prime minister for third term on June 9, according to an order issued by the Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on Friday.
The prohibitory orders will remain imposed for two days, June 9 and 10, it said.
Religious leaders from all faiths also invited
According to News18, atleast50 religious leaders from all faiths have also been invited besides Padma awardees and Mann Ki Baat participants.
Traffic Advisory
Traffic restrictions and diversions will be in place on several roads, including those around the Rashtrapati Bhavan, in view of the prime minister's swearing-in ceremony on Sunday, according to a Delhi Police advisory.
To ensure smooth traffic management in the vicinity of the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Sansad Marg (between the Transport Bhawan and the T-point on Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg), North Avenue Road, South Avenue Road, Kushak Road, Rajaji Marg, Krishna Menon Marg, Talkatora Road and Pt. Pant Marg will be closed from 2 pm to 11 pm, and only pedestrian movement will be allowed, the advisory said.
