Tamil Nadu Election 2024: The Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat in Tamil Nadu sees CPI(M)'s PR Natarajan challenged by BJP's K Annamalai and others.

The Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency in Tamil Nadu, comprising the Palladam, Sulur, Kavundampalayam, Coimbatore (North), Coimbatore (South), and Singanallur assembly segments, is currently represented by PR Natarajan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)).

It is poised for a high-stakes battle in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on April 19. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Tamil Nadu party president K Annamalai, who will face Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Ganapathy P Rajkumar and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (AIADMK) Singai Ramachandran.

While the CPI(M) holds seat currently in alliance with the DMK and aims to strengthen its position in the Kongu region, the DMK’s decision to field its own contestant in Coimbatore instead of CPI(M) could sway the voting pattern significantly. Left parties have historically dominated the region, while DMK hasn't won the Coimbatore Lok Sabha seat since 1996.

The BJP has been a formidable player in Coimbatore, winning the Lok Sabha seat once in 1999. Although the party's influence has slightly waned without an alliance with AIADMK this time, anti-incumbency against the sitting MP could work in its favour.
