'Please provide voter's name, EPIC number...': Bihar CEC responds to 'dual voting' charge

A day after facing a severe drubbing in Bihar, the Congress on Saturday questioned the role of the Election Commission in the poll process while its top leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, went into a huddle to discuss the poll outcome.

Hours after Congress leader Supriya Shrinate, reacting to a charge that there was dual voting in Bihar, questioned the electoral process, the Chief Electoral Officer of the state further seeking details of the person involved in dual voting said the poll body can only look into the matter once the credentials of the person is established clearly.

"Please provide the voter's name, EPIC number, booth number, and assembly constituency number mentioned in the video so that an investigation can be conducted and action can be taken as per the law. Without any factual information, the above claim cannot be substantiated. Appropriate legal action will be taken against anyone spreading fake news," read a tweet by Bihar CEC.

Earlier, a scribe accused a BJP worker of voting twice -- the first time in Patna, and again in his native village. "When I was tracking the developments in the BJP office in Patna, a worker revealed that he voted twice -- once in Patna and then in his native village."

The scribe went on to add that the worker also narrated how he managed to remove the indelible ink on his finger the first time, thereby putting him beyond the scrutiny of poll officials in his native village. Reacting to this remark, Supriya Shrinate responded "Papaya leaf = vote theft in Bihar".
