On this day, Joseph A. Walker, a distinguished United States Air Force Captain and fighter pilot, made history by becoming the first person to enter space twice. Flying the X-15, a high-speed experimental rocket-powered aircraft, Walker reached a staggering altitude of 67 miles (108 kilometres) during a 12-minute flight. This achievement underscored the collaborative efforts of the US Air Force and NASA in pushing the boundaries of space exploration.

1962: Assassination Attempt on Charles De Gaulle
In a dramatic turn of events, French President Charles De Gaulle survived an assassination attempt orchestrated by the Organisation de l'armée secrète (OAS), a far-right group opposed to his policies.
