In a major step to enhance access to Sanskrit manuscripts and scholarly works, the Central Sanskrit University (CSU) in New Delhi has unveiled plans to create a shared digital library platform. This initiative aims to connect Sanskrit universities and institutions across India, boosting research, collaboration, and the preservation of ancient knowledge.

According to a report from The Times of India, the decision was finalised during the second meeting of the CSU’s Central Library Committee, held at the university’s Janakpuri headquarters. Chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof. Srinivas Varakhedi, the meeting emphasized the platform’s role in digitizing rare Sanskrit texts, manuscripts, and research materials, making them easily accessible to scholars and students nationwide.

Prof. Varakhedi highlighted that the digital library aligns with the government’s Digital India mission, ensuring that India’s cultural and intellectual heritage remains preserved and widely available.

The initiative will be managed by the Sanskrit Library Network and Sanskrit Libraries Consortium, enabling universities to share resources, collaborate on research, and enhance education in traditional Indian knowledge systems.
