The Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday handed over appointment letters to 51,389 newly recruited teachers at a grand ceremony held at Gandhi Maidan. The newly appointed teachers were selected through the third phase of the Teachers' Recruitment Examination (TRE-3), conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
The event saw the participation of over 10,000 teachers from across the state, while similar programs were organized simultaneously in various districts and blocks to accommodate the remaining recruits. The Chief Minister was joined by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Education Minister Sunil Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Education) S. Siddharth, and other senior officials.
Addressing the gathering, Nitish Kumar highlighted the state government's commitment to strengthening the education system by ensuring the recruitment of qualified teachers. He revealed that, including the latest batch, a total of 2,68,548 teachers have been appointed in the state over three phases of recruitment. Additionally, 42,918 candidates have cleared the examination for headmaster positions, while 2,53,961 teachers previously appointed through Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have now been granted government employee status.
With this latest recruitment drive, the total number of teachers and headmasters appointed since January 2024 has crossed the three-lakh mark, taking the overall strength of teachers in Bihar to six lakh. This achievement aligns with the state government’s ambitious goal of creating 12 lakh government jobs and generating over 30 lakh employment opportunities across various sectors.
Employment generation has been a cornerstone of the Nitish Kumar-led government’s agenda, especially since the 2020 state elections. The issue of unemployment has been a focal point in Bihar's political landscape, with the Opposition often criticizing the government for failing to address joblessness. However, the recent recruitment drives, particularly in the education sector, have allowed the ruling dispensation to reclaim the narrative by demonstrating tangible progress in job creation.
In the first phase of teacher recruitment, 1,20,336 candidates were appointed, followed by 96,823 in the second phase. The latest phase, TRE-3, has added 51,389 more teachers to the state’s workforce, further solidifying the government’s efforts to improve the quality of education while tackling unemployment.
