The National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced a change in the exam pattern for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2025. The optional questions in Section B, which were temporarily introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, have now been removed.
As per the revised pattern, the NEET UG 2025 question paper will consist of 180 compulsory questions, making it mandatory for candidates to attempt all questions. The optional questions in Section B were initially included as a one-time measure during the pandemic but will no longer be part of the exam.
Revised Exam Structure
The new structure for the NEET UG 2025 exam is as follows:
- Physics: 45 questions
- Chemistry: 45 questions
- Biology: 90 questions
- Total: 180 questions
Each subject contributes equally to the total score of 720 marks, with each section carrying 180 marks. Candidates will have three hours (180 minutes) to complete the exam.
Examination Format and Registration Updates
The NEET UG 2025 will continue to be conducted in an OMR-based pen-and-paper mode, in a single day and single shift. In an earlier announcement, the NTA had instructed candidates to register through the APAAR ID portal to enhance transparency and prevent impersonation during the exam. However, on Friday, the NTA clarified that the APAAR ID is not mandatory for registering for the medical entrance test.
