Maharashtra govt and British Council launch programme to strengthen higher education internationalisation

The Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra, in collaboration with the British Council, has launched the Capacity Building for International Officers programme. This initiative, part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two entities, aims to enhance the internationalisation efforts of higher education institutions across the state.

A total of 36 participants from 18 public and private universities in Maharashtra have been selected for the workshop, which is designed to equip universities with the tools and expertise to engage in global academic collaborations. The programme aligns with the goals outlined in India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on making India a global hub for higher education by fostering cross-border partnerships and promoting institutional excellence.

The workshop includes modules that address skill development and effectiveness for international officers, emphasizing knowledge sharing and practical outcomes to support internationalisation agendas at the participating institutions.

Principal Secretary for Higher and Technical Education, Shri Vikas Chandra Rastogi, IAS, stated that the initiative is a significant step toward transforming Indian higher education. He highlighted its alignment with NEP 2020 and Maharashtra’s vision to strengthen the quality of education and build global connections.
