Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar is yet to place its 31 percent students in the ongoing placement season 2023-24, according to Right to Information (RTI) data shared with Moneycontrol.
While 298 students registered for the placement, 205 secured job offers as of now. Last year, 49 students did not receive campus placement and 30 in 2021-22, revealed the RTI reply to Dheeraj Singh, founder of Global IIT Alumni Support Group.
To be sure, the placement process and collation of data for annual year (AY) 2023-24 is in progress and numbers can change in future.
Currently, the average salary stands at Rs 22.92 lakh per annum (LPA), almost similar to last year's Rs 21.55 LPA. In the 2021-22 placement season, the average salary offered was 20.24 LPA.

Although the average salary has changed minimally, the median salary has increased. From Rs 16.9 LPA in 2021-22 to Rs 19.48 LPA.
Average salary is calculated by adding up all the salaries and then dividing by the number of salaries. However, median salary is the middle salary in the list, when all the salaries are arranged in order from lowest to highest.
An earlier RTI reply to Singh revealed that around 44 percent students at IIT Indore are yet to secure jobs in the ongoing placement season. While 452 students registered for the placement, only 254 have managed to get jobs until April 14, 2024.
Similar situation has been observed at IIT Jammu and IIT Palakkad with 50-57 percent students yet to secure job offers as companies tighten their campus placement strategy.
