Amid the detection of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases, Delhi Public School (DPS) campuses in Bengaluru and Mysuru have implemented enhanced health surveillance measures to protect students from the respiratory virus. The initiative aims to safeguard the health of children, who are particularly vulnerable, while keeping parents informed about the precautions being taken.

Mansoor Ali Khan, a board member of DPS Bengaluru and Mysuru and a Congress leader, outlined the steps being taken by the schools. “We have issued circulars to parents, advising them not to send their children to school if they exhibit even mild symptoms such as a cough, cold, or sore throat. Our aim is not to create panic but to ensure the safety of all students. A detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be shared to keep everyone informed,” he said.

To further reassure parents, Khan stated that students who miss assessments or tests due to illness will not face academic penalties. “Students who are unwell will be allowed to appear for assessments at a later date,” he added. Teachers have been instructed to monitor students closely and inform parents if any child exhibits symptoms, allowing for immediate action.

This proactive move by DPS follows the detection of HMPV cases in India. HMPV, known to cause respiratory distress, poses a significant risk to children. The recent surge in cases in China has also underscored the importance of preventive measures.
