The CBSE Class 12 Sociology exam for the 2025 academic year has now concluded. The exam was conducted from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Class 12 Sociology exam in a single shift across multiple exam centres nationwide. As per CBSE guidelines, students were required to carry their admit cards and school ID to ensure a smooth and hassle-free examination process. Additionally, students were provided with an extra 15 minutes before the start of the exam to carefully read and understand the question paper.
The CBSE Class 12 Sociology exam was divided into two parts:
- Part 1: Indian Society (40 marks)
- Part 2: Social Change and Development in India (40 marks)
Apart from the theory paper, students were also assessed through a practical exam (15 marks) and a viva (5 marks). The question paper included a mix of objective, short-answer, and long-answer questions, assessing students’ conceptual understanding and analytical skills.
Teachers’ Analysis
Teachers who reviewed the Sociology paper found it to be well-structured and aligned with the CBSE syllabus. Most of the questions were based on NCERT textbooks, making it accessible to students who had prepared thoroughly.
While the majority of the questions were straightforward, some competency-based and case study questions required critical thinking and application of sociological perspectives. These questions aimed to test students' ability to analyse social issues and trends, making the exam a balanced mix of theoretical and applied learning.
Students’ Reactions
Students had mixed reactions to the Sociology exam. Many found it manageable, with familiar questions that were similar to sample papers and previous years’ exams. Some students found the case-based and analytical questions slightly challenging, as they required interpretation and critical thinking. However, those who had practised regularly and understood key sociological theories felt confident in their responses.
