The Bhoiwada police in Thane arrested a man on Tuesday for allegedly beheading his wife with a sharp knife in Bhiwandi following a domestic dispute stemming from suspicion about the husband's extramarital affair.
The police had discovered the woman’s severed head in Bhiwandi four days ago. The accused, identified as Mohammad Taha Ansari alias Sonu, a driver by profession, allegedly slit the throat of his wife and later dumped her body parts in a creek to cover up the killing.
The victim has been identified as 22-year-old Pravin, also known as Muskan Ansari. She had been married to Sonu for two years, and the couple had a one-year-old son. However, their relationship had been strained for some time.
According to police, frequent fights broke out between Muskan and her husband, often involving his family as well. Muskan suspected that Sonu was having an affair with another woman, and this constant suspicion further fuelled arguments. She had also expressed her wish to live separately, away from her in-laws.
Muskan rented a small house near the Eidgah creek area in Bhiwandi recently, where she stayed with her son. But even after moving out, tensions did not reduce. The disputes and heated arguments between the couple continued.
When police began investigating the discovery of the body, they scanned CCTV cameras around the area, spoke to local residents, and checked with informants. During the process, they noticed that a house nearby had been locked for several days, which raised suspicion. Following the lead, the police traced the matter back to Sonu. Upon sustained questioning, he broke down and confessed to committing the murder.
"Preliminary investigation suggests Muskan suspected her husband of an affair, which triggered repeated fights. In a fit of rage, Sonu allegedly beheaded her with sharp knives and disposed of her body parts in the creek," TOI quoted an official at Bhoiwada police station as saying.
