Bengaluru is set to face traffic restrictions on Friday, as Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to arrive in the city to address the ‘vote theft’ rally at Freedom Park.
The Bengaluru City Traffic Police have issued a detailed advisory, cautioning commuters about diversions and parking prohibitions in several key areas.'
The restrictions will particularly affect MG Road, Cubbon Road, Old Airport Road, Chalukya Road, Shantala Junction, and surrounding localities, Deccan Herald reported.
In view of the VVIP movement, the police have urged residents and motorists to plan their travel in advance and avoid certain arterial stretches during peak restriction hours.
On Friday, parking will be prohibited in multiple zones, and two specific time slots have been earmarked for road closures.
Between 10.30 am and 11.30 am, Old Airport Road, MG Road, and Cubbon Road are to be avoided. The same stretches will again be off-limits from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
Commuters have been advised to use alternative routes during these windows to avoid inconvenience. “The public is requested to co-operate,” the official advisory stated.
Rahul Gandhi will be joined by AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge in addressing the rally, which is being organised by the Congress to protest against the alleged theft of votes.
Originally planned for Tuesday, August 5, the event was postponed following the death of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Shibu Soren.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar highlighted that the choice of Freedom Park, a site with deep historical significance, was deliberate and in compliance with court restrictions on large-scale protests in the city, DH reported.
He added that the demonstration will see participation from state legislators, ministers, and defeated party candidates.
“From every assembly constituency, apart from those in and around Bengaluru, at least 50 party leaders should participate.
Siddaramaiah, myself, Surjewala, and other senior leaders have already held meetings to coordinate the arrangements,” he said.
