A round-the-clock high alert was declared on Tuesday across all Uttar Pradesh districts that share a border with Nepal, following the growing crisis in the neighbouring country. With the situation becoming tense, officials in Uttar Pradesh have increased security and are preparing for any emergency, Hindustan Times reported.

Security has also been tightened in Bihar, which shares a 729-kilometre-long porous border with Nepal. Seven districts in Bihar, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Araria, Supaul, and Kishanganj, have been put on high alert. The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the paramilitary force responsible for guarding the border, has increased surveillance and deployed additional troops, according to a report by The Tribune.

Uttar Pradesh shares its border with Nepal through seven districts, Shravasti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj. Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Krishna issued strict instructions on Tuesday, placing the police force on round-the-clock alert. He directed officials to strengthen border surveillance, increase patrolling, and deploy extra forces to make sure no unlawful activities or disturbances spill across the border.

A special control room has also been set up at the police headquarters in Lucknow. This unit, headed by the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), has been tasked with providing help to Indian citizens who may be stranded in Nepal.
