Prominent nephrologist and senior surgeon Dr George P Abraham was found dead at his farmhouse in Thuruthissery, near Cochin International Airport, news agency IANS reported.
According to the report, a suicide note was found from his farmhouse, where old age and health issues were cited as reasons for the tragic step.
Dr Abraham had arrived at his farmhouse on Sunday evening along with his brother. After some time, he sent his brother away and chose to stay back alone. He was found hanging later that night.
Dr Abraham’s brother lodged a police complaint at the Nedumbassery police station when he did not return to his home at Elamkulam. “We tracked down his mobile phone location and traced him to the farmhouse. By the time we got there, the family members had also reached there,” the police officials said.
Dr Abraham was a renowned nephrologist and renal transplant specialist. He had nearly five decades of experience, where he performed more than 2,500 kidney transplants.
In his long career as a renal transplant specialist, Abraham wrote himself into medical history when he became just the third surgeon to harvest a kidney from a donor using the laparoscopic method.
The 77-year-old, one of the leading kidney transplant surgeons in the country, also completed more than 8500 cases of PCNL, 12000 cases of URS, and more than 12000 cases of TURPs. He has an essential role in carrying out the first 3D laparoscopic urology workshop in India.
