A clash between two groups during a Holi procession in Jharkhand’s Giridih district on Friday reportedly left several people injured. At least three shops were allegedly burned down during the incident, CNN-News18 reported.
The situation is currently under control as police forces remain deployed at the area. An investigation is underway to identify those involved.
The incident occurred in Ghodthamba when a group opposed the passage of a Holi procession, triggering a clash. Both sides reportedly hurled stones at each other.
“A large police contingent was deployed to restore peace in the area. The situation is under control and is being monitored closely,” Khorimahua Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajendra Prasad was quoted as saying by CNN-News18.
Superintendent of Police Dr Bimal, speaking about the incident, said no major injuries were reported, but efforts are underway to identify the accused and strong action will be taken against them.
"An incident of clash between two communities has come to light in Ghorthamba OP constituency during Holi celebrations. We are in the process of identifying the people involved. Strict action will be taken against them. The situation is currently under control, and no major injuries have been reported...some vehicles were also set on fire," the official told ANI.
Deputy Development Commissioner Smita Kumari, meanwhile, stated that some "anti-social" elements tried to disturb the law and order, but the situation is under control now.
