A 32-year-old woman was brutally murdered on Monday, stabbed repeatedly by her husband in full public view near the Sunkadakatte bus stand on Magadi Road, Bengaluru. The horrific attack unfolded in the presence of the couple’s 12-year-old daughter.
The victim, K Rekha, a telecaller originally from Hassan, succumbed to her injuries after being stabbed 11 times. Her husband, Lohitashwa, a cab driver from Tumakuru district, fled the scene immediately after the assault.
According to eyewitnesses and a police account reported by TOI, the attack occurred as Rekha and her elder daughter were waiting to cross the road. Lohitashwa suddenly appeared and a heated argument erupted between the couple.
The situation escalated rapidly. Police reported that Lohitashwa “lost control” and began loudly abusing his wife before pulling out a knife. He then stabbed her multiple times as their terrified daughter tried in vain to intervene.
Before bystanders could rush to Rekha's aid, her husband fled the area. The entire incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Preliminary police investigations have revealed that the union was a second marriage for both Rekha and Lohitashwa. The couple, who lived in Kebbehalli, also have a second, younger daughter.
Rekha worked at a call centre in Tavarekere and had reportedly helped her husband secure a job as a cab driver at the same office. The precise motive for the murder is still under investigation. The Magadi Road police have registered a case and are hunting for the absconding husband.
