Travelling by Delhi Metro is set to get expensive as the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has officially confirmed a hike in ticket fares starting Monday, August 25. This marks the first revision in eight years, with the last increase having taken place in 2017.
Responding to a query on social media platform X, the metro authority said that the hike will be ‘nominal’ and will range between Re 1 and Rs 4 on most metro lines. However, the Airport Express Line will see a slightly bigger rise, with fares going up by as much as Rs 5.
In its official post, DMRC stated: “The passenger fares of the Delhi Metro services have been revised with effect from today, August 25, 2025 (Monday). The revision will be nominal, with fares increasing by Re 1 to Rs 4. The fares on the Airport Line will increase by up to Rs 5.”
According to DMRC, the increase was necessary to maintain smooth operations, ensure regular upkeep of the metro infrastructure, and support future expansion of the rapidly growing metro network, which caters to millions of passengers every day, Mathrubhumi reported.
Delhi Metro fare structure
With the new revision, passengers will have to pay Rs 11 for travel up to 2 km, Rs 21 for 2-5 km, Rs 32 for 5-12 km, Rs 43 for 12-21 km, Rs 54 for 21-32 km, and Rs 64 for journeys beyond 32 km.
On Sundays and national holidays, fares will be slightly cheaper. The revised slabs will be Rs 11 for up to 5 km, Rs 21 for 5-12 km, Rs 32 for 12-21 km, Rs 43 for 21-32 km, and Rs 54 for beyond 32 km.
Until Sunday, August 24, the minimum fare was Rs 10 while the maximum fare stood at Rs 60.
Many users on X expressed disappointment over DMRC’s decision to raise fares, questioning the need for the revision. One commuter asked, “Why are you increasing the fare? What extra facilities or benefits will passengers get from tomorrow?” Another user pointed out the burden on daily travellers, writing, "I pay DMRC Rs 130 every day now it will be Rs 140. I thought this is steady but you guys are adjusting inflation faster than our salary revision."
