IT service and consulting major Cognizant has begun deploying AI startup Anthropic’s Large Language Model (LLM) - Claude - across client-facing platforms and will roll out access to up to 3.50 lakh employees across corporate, engineering and delivery functions, a company release said on November 4.
The move is intended to help enterprises shift from AI pilots to scaled deployments.
Cognizant said it will integrate Claude and its version for Mac and Windows called Claude Code with Flowsource – Cognizant’s generative AI engineering platform - to support coding tasks, testing, documentation, and DevOps processes.
Cognizant will also use Anthropic’s Agent SDK to build multi-agent orchestration with human-in-the-loop controls.
The vast majority of Cognizant's employees are located in India.
On October 8, Anthropic announced that it is opening its first office in India in the country's tech capital, Bengaluru, as the artificial intelligence (AI) research company looks to expand its international footprint amid intensifying competition from OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Meta.

Why it Matters
“Enterprises are moving beyond simple productivity gains toward a more connected, agentic future,” Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S, said in the statement.
“By pairing Anthropic’s Claude models and agentic tooling with Cognizant’s suite of platforms and industry expertise, we will help clients build the foundations of an agentified enterprise. We are equally excited to apply Anthropic’s technology to help us drive these transformation goals internally at Cognizant.”
Software Engineering Focus
Cognizant said it will combine its modernization frameworks with Claude’s code-understanding capabilities to analyze and re-factor large legacy collection of human-written source code files.
This is expected to help enterprises integrate AI with existing systems without requiring major architectural overhauls, Cognizant added.
Industry-specific AI Solutions
Companies will be able to develop vertical AI solutions using Cognizant’s industry platforms and Anthropic’s model context protocols, beginning with financial services, Cognizant added. These solutions will embed agentic workflows into regulated environments, with oversight and governance controls.
“The combination of frontier AI with deep domain expertise and implementation capabilities is what makes this partnership so exciting and will absolutely accelerate AI in the enterprise,” Paul Smith, Chief Commercial Officer at Anthropic said.
Responsible AI
The partnership includes practices for safe deployment and monitoring aligned with governance standards such as the Model Context Protocol.
Cognizant will conduct workshops and platform-based engagements to help clients identify use cases and move them into production.
