His mother, filmmaker Mira Nair, previously owned a luxury Manhattan loft now valued at around $1.9 million. According to his 2024 ethics filing, Mamdani also owns a 4-acre property in Uganda, worth between $150,000 and $250,000—raising questions about the alignment between his lifestyle and political views.

The New York Post has also highlighted Mamdani’s privileged upbringing. Both of his parents are of Indian descent his mother, Mira Nair, is an acclaimed filmmaker, while his father is a respected author and professor at Columbia University.
