Tension and expectation gripped Israel, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank on Sunday as the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas held ahead of a decisive day for all parties.

Preparations were reportedly underway for the release of the remaining 48 hostages — both living and dead — still held in Gaza, alongside hundreds of Palestinian prisoners. Aid convoys were also being readied for the devastated enclave, left in ruins after two years of war that began with the Hamas-led assault on Israel on 7 October 2023, which killed around 1,200 people and saw roughly 250 taken hostage. Israel’s subsequent offensive has killed more than 67,600 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
