Former US President Bill Clinton has stepped into the growing controversy over the newly released Epstein files, urging the United States Department of Justice under Donald Trump to make public all remaining records linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Clinton has accused the administration of selectively releasing documents in a manner that fuels suspicion rather than clarity.
In a statement issued through his office, Clinton criticised the way the files were disclosed, arguing that partial releases only deepen public distrust. He said the approach raises troubling questions about whether key information is being deliberately withheld.
‘Someone or something is being protected’
Angel Urena, Clinton’s spokesperson, said the manner of disclosure itself points to a deeper problem. “What the Department of Justice has released so far, and the manner in which it did so, shows that someone or something is being protected,” Urena said. “We do not know whom, what, or why.”
The statement warned that releasing fragments of records risks misleading the public and unfairly damaging reputations without providing a complete account of events surrounding Epstein and his associates.
Call for full disclosure
Clinton has called for what his office described as the “full and complete record the public demands and deserves.” His statement said this should include all material covered under Public Law 119–38, passed on November 19, 2025.
According to the statement, the release should extend to grand jury transcripts, interview notes, photographs and findings compiled by the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, as long as they are legally eligible for disclosure.
DOJ response
The Justice Department has so far not addressed Clinton’s accusation of selective disclosure. However, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has said that additional documents related to the Epstein investigation will be released in the coming days. These are expected to include records connected to Epstein’s longtime associate and co accused Ghislaine Maxwell.
Clinton named in released material
Clinton’s intervention follows the release of a new batch of Epstein related files in which his name appears repeatedly. Photographs made public by the DOJ show Clinton aboard Epstein’s private jet, dining with figures such as Mick Jagger, and sitting in a hot tub with women whose faces were blacked out.
Clinton’s office has acknowledged that he socialised with Epstein in the early 2000s and flew on his aircraft several times, as reflected in flight logs. At the same time, his team has argued that only full transparency, rather than piecemeal disclosures, can address public concern and ensure accountability in one of the most scrutinised scandals in recent American history.
