Addressing the plenary session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that China will work with all parties in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to take the regional security forum to a new level. In a strong message to western powers, Xi reiterated that grouping stands against any form of outside interference.
In his opening remarks, Xi said the SCO has set a model for a new type of international relations, adding that the forum unequivocally opposed external interference.
Xi kicked off the meeting of the SCO council of heads of states in Tianjin with his keynote address, highlighting the fluid and chaotic world situation. The member countries of SCO are all friends and partners, and should respect differences while maintaining strategic communication, said the Chinese President.
Xi also called for setting up ‘SCO development bank’ as soon as possible for economic cooperation among member states.
Highlighting China’s economic achievements within the SCO framework, he stated that trade between China and SCO countries had surpassed $2.3 trillion.
He emphasised China’s leadership role in regional connectivity, noting that China was the first to launch Belt and Road cooperation amongst member nations. Looking ahead, the Chinese President outlined his vision for deeper integration, pledging to build a friendly network of the SCO’s peoples and promote true multilateralism in international relations He also praised praised the organisation’s achievements whilst outlining his vision for its future development.
