Pakistan has expressed willingness to engage in "composite dialogue" with India, including on the issue of Kashmir. However, Indian officials maintain that New Delhi’s position remains firm; talks can only proceed in the context of terrorism and the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Pakistan's Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Islamabad was ready to discuss “all outstanding issues” but added, “Pakistan will not beg for talks.”
“Pakistan is ready for a composite dialogue with India in a dignified and respectful manner on all outstanding issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute as per its longstanding position on the matter," Dar said.
India, after launching Operation Sindoor in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, clearly mentioned that it will only hold talks with Pakistan on the issue of terrorism.
Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar claimed that during the recent flare-up, Islamabad’s stance received international recognition through what he termed “proactive diplomacy."
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. In response, India launched precision strikes under Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Pakistan attempted retaliatory strikes on Indian military installations between May 8 and 10, which India effectively countered through targeted responses on Pakistani military positions. After four days of intense drone and missile exchanges, both sides agreed to de-escalate and cease hostilities on May 10.
In the aftermath, India took firm diplomatic steps by downgrading ties with Islamabad, suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, and halting all bilateral trade, sending a clear message against cross-border terrorism and aggression.
