Newly released US government documents suggest that a man believed to be Britain’s former prince Andrew discussed arranging meetings with “inappropriate friends” with Ghislaine Maxwell, a close associate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The emails form part of nearly 30,000 pages published by the US Justice Department under a transparency law and add new detail to the long-running scrutiny of Andrew’s past connections to Epstein and Maxwell.

The correspondence, dated 2001 and 2002, was sent from an email account using the alias “The Invisible Man” and signed simply as “A”.

In one message sent in August 2001, the writer says he is staying at Balmoral, the British royal family’s summer residence in Scotland, and asks Maxwell: “Have you found me some new inappropriate friends?”
