A dramatic incident unfolded at Masjid al-Haram in Saudi Arabia’s Mecca after a man attempted to take his own life by jumping from an upper floor of the Grand Mosque. A quick response by security personnel helped prevent a fatal outcome, though a guard was injured while breaking the man’s fall.

According to the Emirate of the Makkah Region, the Special Force for the Security of the Grand Mosque acted immediately after the man moved toward the edge and jumped from an upper level. A security officer standing below rushed to intervene and managed to prevent the man from hitting the ground, sustaining fractures in the process.

In a statement, Haram security forces confirmed the incident, saying, “there was an incident of a person attempting to take his own life from the upper floors of the Grand Mosque.”

They added, “A security officer was injured while trying to prevent him from hitting the ground at the moment of his fall. Both individuals were immediately transferred to receive the necessary medical care, and the required official procedures were completed.”
