The Group of Seven (G7) nations on May 10 issued a joint statement calling for restraint and dialogue between India and Pakistan, while condemning the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22 which claimed 26 lives.
The foreign ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States – along with the High Representative of the European Union – condemned the Pahalgam terror strike and warned against further military escalation in the region.
“We, the G7 Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States of America and the High Representative of the European Union, strongly condemn the egregious terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 and urge maximum restraint from both India and Pakistan,” the G7 said in a statement issued on May 10.

The ministers cautioned that any intensification of hostilities could pose a serious threat to regional peace. “Further military escalation poses a serious threat to regional stability. We are deeply concerned for the safety of civilians on both sides,” the statement added.
The joint message signals growing global concern over the volatility in the region and the need for crisis management before the situation spirals further.
Appeal for Diplomacy
The group of nations emphasised the need for direct engagement between the two neighbours to prevent deterioration of the situation and avoid humanitarian fallout. “We call for immediate de-escalation and encourage both countries to engage in direct dialogue towards a peaceful outcome,” the G7 foreign ministers said, urging a diplomatic route to resolve tensions.
The G7 also assured that developments in the region would be closely tracked and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting peace efforts. “We continue to monitor events closely and express our support for a swift and lasting diplomatic resolution,” the statement said.

Heightened Tensions
The appeal comes amid rising tensions along the India-Pakistan border following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, after which New Delhi carried precision strikes on terror sites inside Pakistan, and said it is not looking to escalate tensions.
India has taken a firm stance of retaliating against cross-border terrorism, Pakistan has denied any involvement and called for international intervention to de-escalate the situation.
