Several people were killed after a small private jet crashed at Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina on Thursday, erupting in a large fire, authorities said.

Iredell County Sheriff’s Office officials confirmed fatalities in the crash, though the exact number of people killed was not immediately known. Iredell County Chief Deputy Bill Hamby told CNN that the incident occurred shortly after 10:15 a.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft, a Cessna C550 business jet, crashed around 10:20 a.m. local time as it was attempting to land at the regional airport. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating the incident, with the NTSB set to lead the probe and provide updates, the FAA said in a statement to CNN.

Video footage aired by WSOC-TV showed first responders rushing onto the runway as flames burned near scattered wreckage from the plane.
