A major boost to tourism and regional connectivity has arrived in Jammu and Kashmir with the launch of the long-awaited helicopter service between Doda and Jammu, officially inaugurated on November 3, 2025. The initiative aims to bridge the travel gap between the hilly district of Doda — known for its breathtaking landscapes and adventure potential — and the bustling city of Jammu, ensuring faster, safer, and more affordable access to the region’s remote beauty.
Operated under the government’s regional connectivity mission, the service is expected to play a crucial role in promoting tourism and economic growth in Doda, a region often described as the “hidden paradise” of Jammu. With fares set at Rs 2,500 per person for a one-way trip, the heli-link makes it easier for both locals and tourists to traverse the challenging terrain in a fraction of the usual travel time.
To streamline bookings, the Directorate of Tourism Office in Jammu will assist passengers travelling from the city, while an Information Cell at the Doda DC Office Complex will support those booking from Doda. Officials emphasized that the service will not only enhance connectivity but also bring essential services closer to residents in remote villages.
Doda’s Tourism Appeal
Perched along the banks of the Chenab River and framed by snow-clad mountains, Doda is fast emerging as a must-visit eco-tourism destination in Jammu and Kashmir. Travellers can explore the serene Dessa Valley, trek through Jai Valley, or camp amid the pine-covered trails of Padri. Spiritual sites like the Machail Chandi Mata Temple and Gupt Ganga Temple add a cultural charm, while adventure seekers can look forward to activities like hiking, camping, and riverfront picnics.
Officials view the launch as part of the government’s broader push to strengthen infrastructure and sustainable tourism in lesser-explored regions. The heli-service is expected to significantly cut down travel time from several hours by road to just minutes, opening up new possibilities for travellers seeking offbeat experiences in Jammu’s eastern ranges.
With this initiative, Doda is not just better connected — it’s better positioned to become one of North India’s most exciting high-altitude destinations.
