Apple’s iPhone 15 was the best-selling smartphone globally in 2024. The iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro followed in second and third place. Apple’s dominance continued, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro also making the list. Samsung secured four spots in the rankings, including the Galaxy A15 5G, Galaxy A15 4G, Galaxy A05, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra, marking the return of the Galaxy S series to the top 10 for the first time since 2018.
Counterpoint Research noted that the iPhone 15’s strong performance was driven by sales in the US and China. The research firm highlighted a shift in consumer preference towards Pro models, which accounted for more than half of Apple’s annual iPhone sales for the first time. Financing options and trade-in programs contributed to this trend, making premium smartphones more accessible.
Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra made to the list
What’s more surprising is that the Galaxy S24 Ultra made to the list for the first time since 2018. According to the report, the AI features made a difference. Features such as chat/note assist, circle to search, and live translation were among the key drivers of its performance. Samsung’s A-series also saw increased adoption, particularly in North America, where one in five Galaxy A15 series smartphones were sold.
