Apple has added 11 products, including the iPhone 11 Pro Max and every model of the Apple Watch Series 3, to its official vintage product list. It’s another reminder of how quickly today’s flagship devices become yesterday’s history.
What vintage products mean
Apple classifies a product as vintage once it has been off the shelves for at least five years. These devices still qualify for hardware service and parts, though support depends on availability. After seven years, however, products become obsolete, which means all official support and service from Apple ends.
The new additions
The most notable name on the list is the iPhone 11 Pro Max, Apple’s 6.5-inch flagship from 2019. Interestingly, its smaller sibling, the iPhone 11 Pro, has not yet been given vintage status.
Joining it are all versions of the Apple Watch Series 3, first launched in 2017 and once marketed as the perfect entry-level smartwatch. The lineup now classified as vintage includes:
•Aluminum models (38mm, 42mm)
•Stainless Steel models (38mm, 42mm)
•Nike editions (38mm, 42mm)
•Hermès editions (38mm, 42mm)
•Ceramic Edition (38mm, 42mm)
That’s 11 devices in total.
The bigger picture
While vintage products can still be serviced, their days of official Apple support are numbered. In a few years, these watches and the iPhone 11 Pro Max will move to the obsolete category — a one-way trip to history.
