Qualcomm recently introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, which is set to power some of the most anticipated flagship smartphones, launching in late 2025 and early 2026. Now, details about its purported successor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, have already begun to surface, with the chipset promising a noticeable increase in raw performance, while offering significant gains in terms of battery efficiency.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6: Expected performance details
According to Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will be Qualcomm’s first chip to use TSMC’s 2nm N2P fabrication technology. Moreover, the tipster predicts that the phones powered by this chipset could be more expensive than their predecessors, as it would offer better power efficiency and higher performance density compared to the 3nm process used in the latest flagship chipsets, such as the recently launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
Further, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is expected to introduce support for LPDDR6 RAM and UFS 5.0 storage, which would make on-device AI operations faster. Previously, the tipster claimed that the chipset has been codenamed SM8975, after the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is internally referred to as SM8850.
Based on past launches from Qualcomm, we can also speculate that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 could be official in September 2026. Moreover, the phones powered by this chipset could break cover in October, with Chinese manufacturers expected to be among the first to power their devices.
