Meta has announced that its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, developed in collaboration with EssilorLuxottica, will soon be launched in India, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates. These next-generation AI-powered glasses offer hands-free access to Meta AI, live translation features, music controls, messaging, and more.
Key features
Ray-Ban Meta glasses allow users to interact with Meta AI by simply saying, “Hey Meta.” The glasses support real-time Q&A, music playback, creative prompts, and hands-free communication. With built-in cameras and speakers, they also enable users to capture photos and videos, make voice and video calls, and send messages through platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.
Meta is also expanding the glasses’ software capabilities. The live translation feature, now rolling out globally, enables real-time voice translation between English, French, Italian, and Spanish—even offline if the relevant language pack is downloaded. Users can also view translated transcripts on their phone.
The glasses now support direct messaging and calling via Instagram, in addition to Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Shazam integration for users whose system language is set to English. Meta AI can also identify songs and provide music details on request.
In select markets, Meta is testing an advanced AI vision feature that allows the assistant to "see" and respond to surroundings continuously, making interactions more contextual without requiring the wake phrase each time.
Availability and price
Meta has confirmed that the glasses will be available in India soon, though the exact launch date has not been disclosed. The rollout is part of a broader global expansion that also includes Mexico and the UAE. There's no word on pricing of the smart glasses.
The Ray-Ban Meta glasses were initially introduced in September 2023, following the earlier launch of Ray-Ban Stories in 2021. Meta continues to expand the AI capabilities and style options, with new Skyler frames and lens combinations now available.
