Information technology firm NTT DATA on November 27 acquired Udupi-based cloud engineering company Niveus Solutions for an undisclosed amount to meet the global demand for transformative cloud solutions across industries.
With this deal, the Japanese company will add 1,000 Google Cloud Platform (GCP) engineering professionals with expertise in GCP native modernisation, data engineering, and artificial intelligence (AI), the company said in a release.
Interestingly, the acquisition of Niveus Solutions marks the second time a Japanese giant has acquired a Udupi-based company. In August 2021, Technopro Holdings acquired Robosoft Technologies for Rs 805 crore.
These deals strengthen Karnataka's "Beyond Bengaluru" initiative, aimed at promoting emerging tech clusters across the state.

Moreover, the deal assumes significance as worldwide end-user spending on public cloud services is forecast to reach $679 billion in 2024, further exceeding $1 trillion in 2027, according to Gartner.
Meanwhile, Niveus Solution supports NTT DATA’s ability to deliver specialised industry cloud platform solutions which enable rapid development of customised use cases across financial services, manufacturing, automotive, retail, and logistics. These added capabilities will further NTT DATA’s ability to address complex challenges across industries and deliver industry-specific cloud solutions globally.
“The acquisition of Niveus Solutions will firmly position us as a leading Google Cloud powerhouse, propelling NTT DATA as one of the world’s largest system integrator partners for Google Cloud,” Charlie Li, Head of Cloud and Security Services, NTT DATA, was quoted as saying in the release.
The acquisition will also build on NTT DATA’s recently expanded strategic partnership with Google Cloud, which is focused on co-innovating data analytics and Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) solutions for enterprise clients.
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close within the next 30-60 days.
In 2015, Adani Power Ltd acquired Lanco Infratech's Udupi Power Plant for ₹6,300 crore, marking one of the largest takeovers in India's thermal power sector at the time.
