The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) put revised Aadhaar update procedures into effect on November 1, 2025. The changes expand online update options for several demographic fields, update the fee schedule for different types of updates, and reinforce the requirement to link Aadhaar with PAN within the stipulated deadline.
Online updates now available for more fields
From today, card-holders can initiate updates to name, address, date of birth and mobile number through the myAadhaar portal when the mobile number linked to Aadhaar is active. UIDAI will use automated verification with existing government databases and allow document uploads to reduce the need for in-person visits. Biometric updates — fingerprint, iris and photograph — still require an in-person visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Revised fee structure and free update windows
UIDAI has revised charges for biometric, demographic and document updates. Biometric updates remain free only within specific age windows defined by UIDAI; outside those windows biometric changes will be charged. Demographic updates done together with a biometric update will not attract a fee, while separate demographic updates will carry a fee. Document uploads via the myAadhaar portal are free for a limited period. Exact fees now include Rs 125 for biometric updates outside the free windows and Rs 75 for standalone demographic or centre-based document updates.
PAN linking and deadline implications
UIDAI has emphasised timely linking of PAN with Aadhaar. Card-holders should ensure PAN is linked with Aadhaar by the deadline specified by tax authorities to avoid inconvenience, including possible deactivation or restrictions on PAN-based services. Financial and tax workflows will increasingly use Aadhaar–PAN linkage for verification and KYC.
What Aadhaar holders should do
Verify that the mobile number linked with Aadhaar is current and accessible for OTP verification. Review demographic details on the UIDAI portal and use online document upload where possible. If a biometric update is needed, book an appointment at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra in advance. Retain the Update Request Number (URN) after submitting any update for tracking purposes.
