Artificial Intelligence might soon do what doctors and scientists have been trying to achieve for centuries — put an end to all diseases. That’s what Demis Hassabis, the co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind, believes could happen in the next 10 years.

In an interview with CBS’ 60 Minutes, Hassabis said that AI has the potential to completely change the way we discover and develop medicines. “Right now, it takes about 10 years and billions of dollars to create just one drug,” he explained. “But with AI, we could bring that down to months or even weeks.”

When asked if he really thinks AI could lead to the end of all diseases, Hassabis confidently said, “I think that’s within reach. Maybe within the next decade or so, I don’t see why not.”

His comments quickly caught the attention of Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI — a company that actually competes with Google’s AI tools. Srinivas didn’t hold back in his praise, calling Hassabis a “genius” and saying he should be given all the support he needs to make this happen.
