Google has rolled out new features for its Chrome browser for better control of desktop resources used by the app. These set of features are aimed at optimising resource usage of the Google Chrome browser, particularly because of its infamous system memory bloat. Google introduced the Performance Detection and Memory Saver tools via the latest The Keyword blog.

Starting off with the new performance detection feature, we can spot it in the top right corner while browsing. With the Performance Detection tool, Chrome proactively identifies potential performance issues and offers solutions. For example, if the tool detects that the tabs you’re currently using are running on the Chrome browser are slowing the system, it will display a performance issue alert with a description of what’s causing the problem with a ‘Fix now’ button.

The Performance Detection tool can be disabled in the Google Chrome Settings if a user wishes to adjust the performance issues manually. Secondly, Google has improved the existing Memory Saver feature, which was first introduced in 2022. This feature now frees up memory from inactive tabs, allowing users to save up RAM space. Chrome users can further choose between three different modes: Moderate, Balanced, and Maximum.

Moreover, these Memory Saver settings adjust how aggressively Chrome frees up memory from inactive tabs, allowing users to customize performance or free up RAM space based on their needs and available hardware. All of these additions are part of the October 2024 update for Google Chrome, and should be available to most users in the coming  days.
